Rakesh Chaurasia, an eminent Indian classical flautist, represents the vibrant future of a deeply revered musical lineage. A former child prodigy, he is the nephew and most accomplished disciple of the legendary Bansuri maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Embracing his uncle’s profound legacy, Rakesh is celebrated for possessing the ideal balance of strength and serenity necessary to be an exceptional flautist. His dexterous blowing technique, combined with rigorous training in ‘Swar’ and ‘Tala’, allows him to adeptly convey deep emotions through the simple hollow piece of bamboo.

Most notably, Rakesh’s boundary-pushing artistry on the world stage recently earned him the ultimate international musical accolade: two Grammy Awards in 2024. Honoured for his collaborative album As We Speak, he took home the awards for:

• Best Contemporary Instrumental Album
• Best Global Music Performance for the track “Pashto”

  Rakesh was awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award(2024-25) in the Creative and Experimental Music category recognising his technical mastery, extensive contributions to Hindustani classical music, and his ability to innovate across musical genres without losing his classical roots

Despite his global collaborations and experimental work, Rakesh remains steadfastly dedicated to his primary goal of being a full-fledged classical musician. He is a highly sought-after studio artist who has recorded with leading stalwarts of the Indian film industry. His global footprint includes captivating audiences across Japan, Australia, Europe, South Africa, and the USA. He has performed at major international events, including the Darbar Festival in the UK,WOMAD festival in Athens, the Festival of Saint-Denis in Paris, the Leicester International Music Festival, and various ‘Festivals of India’ globally. Additionally, he was uniquely invited to conclude a historic 24-hour live music broadcast on BBC radio celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee.

His immense talent has been recognized with numerous prestigious accolades, including the Indian Music Academy Award presented by former President Dr. A.P.J.
